Arnau Velazquez is a choreographer and dancer currently based at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. After performing with The Royal Ballet and Opera in London, he began creating original choreographic works that combine neoclassical ballet with cinematic storytelling and contemporary themes.
His work is characterised by visually striking productions, compelling theatrical narratives, and a choreographic language rooted in classical technique.
Whether creating intimate duets or full scale productions, his focus remains the same: to create dance that captivates audiences.
The Works
October 5th
Music: Vigo Kovačić
October 5th unfolds during a birthday party in a 1950s American household, where everything appears perfect. Beneath this polished surface, relationships begin to fracture, revealing the distance between identity and expectation.
Inspired by personal letters, the work places the audience inside the scene as a silent observer, present yet unseen, witnessing what is felt but never openly expressed.

#2 captures the moment a woman who has always existed in second place decides to take control. For the first time, she refuses to be defined or directed by men, reclaiming authority over her body, her choices, and her presence.
Held
Music: Jóhann Jóhannsson
Held is a contemporary piece about the invisible forces that keep us going when we are close to letting go. It explores vulnerability, resilience, and the quiet power of being held by another.
L_ST T_ME
Music: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
L_ST T_ME explores the moment when two people are still physically together but already emotionally apart. The choreography focuses on the final stage of a relationship, not the breakup itself, but the repetition that continues after the end is already clear.
Desire, habit, and distance coexist, shaping a dynamic where connection is maintained out of routine rather than choice.
Rêverie
Music: Charles Debussy
Rêverie is the memory of a beginning. A return to the moment where love first takes shape, and the realization appears with clarity: you have found the one. The choreography exists within that suspended state, where everything is still new, certain, and untouched by time.
Degrees
Music: Tumbara
Degrees is an abstract neoclassical duet that explores the idea that making a 180 degree turn is not always a setback. Sometimes, changing direction is the decision that leads to growth, clarity, and new opportunities.
Valentina Štrok - Assistant
Valentina Štrok was born in Croatia and is a Soloist at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. She has been part of Arnau’s journey as a choreographer from the very beginning. First she was involved as a dancer being part of Arnau’s early works, and later became choreographic assistant and playwright.
